Explore Mark-Making
With Sally Cole Saturday 25th March 2023 10 am - 2:00 pm Cost: $80 per person Spend four hours with UK abstract landscape painter, Sally Cole. sallycoleartist.co.uk "Working outside in the land is the source of inspiration for my paintings and monotypes." During the workshop we will discover fresh ways of mark making in response to the environment, whilst loosening any expectation of making ‘finished’ drawings. All drawings and paintings need to start with observation, so we will spend the first 1/2 an hour making marks in front of a ‘still life’ construction. We will use a variety of tools, feathers, sticks, grass, anything that excites and produces marks that interest and reveals something of the landscape. Bring your own tools if you have something you love to work with. Our medium will be ink and charcoal, come prepared to make a “mess”. Weather permitting, we will be working outside, so please bring raincoats! Bring a picnic, we will break for lunch. Paper, ink, charcoal will be provided. Randall Froude Painting Demonstration Day
Saturday April 9th, 2016 9am - 4pm at Kumeu Arts Centre Randall Froude is one of NZ’s most accomplished and successful artists—both creatively and commercially. Froude, trained at Elam, is a multi-faceted artist who handles with elegance & assurance a wide range of techniques, medium, style & subject. But his instinct is for the natural world, & his work most commonly ranges in style between breath-taking realism & a South Seas brand of impressionism. He has been called the ‘Monet’ of the South Pacific. Froude is based in the South Island but otherwise spends much of his time traveling in his personal mission to help others release their artistic gifts. What happens on the day: Randall will complete a painting from start to finish in oils. He will demonstrate many techniques, skills and tips acquired over 77 years of painting most of those professionally. While painting Randall will discuss techniques and answer questions and you are most welcome to take photos or video to document his process. We will stop for coffee and lunch breaks. Tea/Coffee will be provided but please supply your own lunch. Bring along your camera or device as photographs are permitted. You are also welcome to bring along a notebook for any note taking.
