Nothing Stays the Same' an Exhibition by Ruby Oakley
Exhibition 24th August - 5th September 2015 “I am a print maker and mixed media artist with a studio at Corban Estate Arts Centre in Henderson. For this exhibition at Kumeu Art Centre entitled “Nothing Stays the Same” I have collected together a body of work that I’ve made over the last 4 years. I want to showcase the variety in my work and to review how my style has developed and changed. On the flip side to also pull out the common threads across my work and re-examine my strengths and my way forward. I mostly work in two mediums- printmaking and mixed media. I work quite spontaneously, intuitively, love to experiment and push boundaries with media. I am enthusiastic about creating my work, both print and mixed media, using multiple layers, colours, textures and pattern. I often draw inspiration from graffiti and street art, along with nature and environmental themes. I won 1st & 2nd prize in 2014 at the Coca Cola Auckland Easter show in the print making category and 3rd prize in 2013 at the Trusts Art and sculpture Awards for a mixed media painting. I am also a tutor at Corban Estate Arts Centre and at Whitecliffe College of Arts & design, where I am passionate about enthusing others about the multi faceted world of print making. |
