THE AFFORDABLE ARTS SALE 2021

We had a fantastic response to our call for the last exhibition of 2021 and the Affordable Arts Sale was a fabulously diverse collection of artwork spanning both our galleries. Everything was priced under $400.

Opening Event: Friday 23rd July 5-7pm

"I have been delving into the captivating medium of alcohol inks for a fews years now, in place of a paintbrush is a heat gun. This tool uses the elements of heat and air, encouraging the inks to dance across the page creating beautiful abstract details. My pieces are then sealed in epoxy resin, brining them to life with a clear, glass like coat”

Arbitrary Ground - Post-Painterly (Im)Possibilities
Media: Cold Wax Medium, Oil and Mixed Media

Group show
Main Gallery
July 20 - August 7th
Opening Event: Friday 23rd July 5-7pm

The artists in this group, while working in different styles, have in common their love of cold wax medium and the unique effects this medium renders.  Despite its ancient origins and a strong following amongst successful artists across the world, cold wax is a little known medium. It is different to encaustic, which is better known.  Each of the artists in this group present distinctive abstract styles but all achieve works with beautiful textures, a wide range of mark making and rich history.  This is done through layering not easily achieved through other media.  All the artists work with non-traditional tools to attain their final results. Simultaneous ambiguity and boldness reveal individual inquiries into nature, the physical environment and personal journeys of loss, migration, adaptation and core beliefs.
Seascapes, organic geometry, landscapes as well as the hidden or quirky, are all abstracted in colourful explorations that will intrigue the viewer, allowing a space of curious wonder.

Marlon Hart - Pacific Crossing
Pod Gallery
Exhibition - 7th April - 1st May
Opening night 9th April. 5pm -7 pm

Muriwai resident Marlon Hart has drawn on his childhood experience and impressions of growing up on Canada’s Pacific Northwest coast - the inspiration for his latest series of limited edition fine art prints. His early years spent in the forests and by the sea around Vancouver instilled in him a deep love of nature, and culturally left a lasting impression. These influences are evident in this series, aptly named PACIFIC CROSSING.

Kumeu Arts - WHO WE ARE

This group exhibition by Kumeu Arts staff, tutors and committee members aimed to give our community more insight into our not-for-profit organisation. Alongside the artworks on display were accompanying interviews which explained the roles of the people involved here (many voluntarily) and highlighted the experience and skills they each bring us. Who are we? We hope you found the answer in this exhibition.

Info Evening and Exhibition Opening
Friday 26th March. 5 – 7 pm.

At the Info evening visitors were able to meet some of our team and learn about classes, upcoming workshops and concerts. The exhibiting artists also gave talks about their practice, artworks on display and inspirations.

Marion Stutz
‘This Must Be The Place’ (Naïve Melody)
Pod Gallery
Exhibition 23rd Feb - 3rd April
Opening event: Fri 26th Feb, 5-7 pm

Naive art theoretically derives from the unschooled artist. Works in this genre therefore operate in a way that is not commonly seen of those trained in the arts. Paintings by the naive artist are unique to the individual - an expression of their take on the ‘every day’. The naive artist forgoes traditional compositions, colour and painterly formalities which are supplanted with individualistic interpretations, creating a visual uniqueness not seen before.

While Marion is not ‘naive’ to the art world visually or intellectually, her works however inhabit the beautiful traits of the naive or ‘outsider’ artist. Humble and homely narratives, simplistic yet consciously considered painting techniques and familiarly quaint subject matter. Her works are reminiscent of Henri Matisse, flat interior planes, joyful blocks of colour and patterned linier capabilities.

Marion’s solo exhibition at Kumeu Arts marries her love for painting and tangible comforts of domestic life, people and places.

Exhibition 20th Feb - 20th March

In our Homo Sapien centered world we  often neglect to recognise the web of life surrounding and sustaining us.
Concealed beneath the waves or hidden in leaf litter a multitude of creatures exist with complex lives and extraordinary abilities.

The effects of climate change combined with destructive human activity, in the deep sea, in the air and on land can adversely affect the
biodiversity of life forms in a variety of eco systems. All play a part in the inter-related ecological balance of the earth.
