Prior to submitting an Expression of Interest, the following points should be noted:
- Applications are open to all artists.
- Applications to exhibit may be for a solo artist or a group of artists.
- Typically, exhibitions run for approx. 3 weeks from Tuesday–Saturday. Exhibition Installation occurs on the first Monday. Take-down occurs on the final Saturday or Sunday by agreement.
- Opening events are typically held on the first weekend of the exhibition. The artist is responsible for providing all food and beverages for this occasion.
- All curation, hanging, take-down of exhibition, openings, etc are the responsibility of the exhibitor/s. Promotion, guidance and equipment will be provided by Kumeu Arts.
- Successful applications show a strong concept, high level of thinking, effective use of gallery space, quality craftmanship and include high resolution images to support the body of work.
- The Arts Centre’s exhibition selection panel will review all Expressions of Interests and make a final decision. The final decision rests with the KACI committee. No correspondence will be entered into. Artists will be advised of the committee’s decision as soon as possible.
- If selected, the exhibiting artist is expected to publicize their exhibition through various methods. We are happy to consult with artists to assist in this process.
- The contract including full terms & conditions, guidelines etc will be issued at the time of booking. This includes agreeing to joint responsibility for promotion of the exhibition.
- Exhibiting artists must have a current KA membership (if selected), charged at $32 per year.
- All artworks sold incurs a 34.5% commission fee.
- KA can offer no guarantees regarding outcomes in the sale of works or number of visitors.

As much as possible. The more through your submission, the greater the chance of a successful application.

You should familiarize yourself with them- come to some of our exhibitions prior to submitting an EOI form so you know the size of the spaces. They offer very different options.

What date should I put in?
It is recommended that you give plenty of time to prepare and make art. Do not apply unless you know you will have enough work.

How should I present my work for exhibiting?
Presentation is hugely important. There are many ways to show work ie. Framing (some are inexpensive) but putting an exhibition together does cost money. You should be realistic about how much you can invest and expect to return. Keep things within your means.
5.
Do you sell a lot of work at Kumeu Arts?
Some exhibitions sell very well, others do not. As a community Gallery, we do not take responsibility for sales. Your reach in terms of sales and visitors depends on how much promotion you do and your ability to get people to come to the opening and to visit us. Offering to give a talk, and meeting people here can help increase sales.

What is the average price range for works sold at Kumeu Arts?
$300 - $800 is the average. Saying that we have sold work for $6,000. We can provide guidance on prices but ultimately the decision rests with the artist/s. Remember that Kumeu Arts takes 34.5% commission from each sale.

Can I hold an opening event?
Yes, we normally recommend the first Friday of your exhibition as it does not clash with our regular classes or concerts. But we will discuss this, as well as staffing the event, with you if selected.
8.
Who arranges the catering for the opening event?
You do. Kumeu Arts provide glasses, plates, tables, tablecloths etc. and the artists provide the wine & food.
9.
What if I’m rejected?
Try not to take it personally. It’s possible that Kumeu Arts didn’t have space or was committed to other events etc. You are welcome to apply again in the future.
