Leanne Rogerson & Sheryl Sefton
Story of a Tea Towel Pod Gallery 5th- 30th March Opening Night: Friday 8th March. 5-7 (In celebration of international Women's Day) The tea towel is a ubiquitous symbol of domesticity in any kitchen and any thought on the matter would normally end at that. For Sheryl and Leanne, it goes further, to them it represents a doorway into a woman's heart and mind, of valuing and validating each other. The tea towel is the conversation and asks the questions, a carrier of women's evolving roles and ultimately a metaphor for her material existence. "I would like Story of a Tea Towel exhibition to open dialogue on viewers personal memories, and the functionally and artistic nature of the NZ tea towel, historically and these current times." As part of this exhibition the artists are holding multiple 'Stitch and Stories' sessions to come and get involved. Use the link below to find out more information and dates. |
Camille Joy
Land & Light Pod Gallery 11th Feb - 2nd March 2024 Opening event: Sat 17th Feb. 3-5 pm An exhibition of North West landscapes by local artist Camille Joy. Camille, who works with acrylic paints and mixed media on board and grew up in West Auckland has a strong connection to the local environment. “For this series, I visited friends and painted ‘en plein air’ at their properties. Observing the visual effects of light on the landscape has taken on deeper meanings. I have learnt that we are caretakers of the land.” Textured mark-making and expressionist brush strokes give Camille’s work a strong sense of movement, while the rich use of colour and contrasting elements create further interest. These paintings serve as observations on the beauty of light. They evoke a sense of joy and hope while also acknowledging the dark areas, in the land and the lives we dwell in. |
