The Kumeu Arts Centre Expansion Fundraising Art Auction 7th – 21st of April. Many will know of our plans to expand and improve our facilities. While the Rodney Local Board are currently reviewing the project, we anticipate that expansion will enable us to more of our services, including exhibitions, classes, workshops and performances, in a better, more functional building. Kumeu Arts Centre will be able to increase its capacity and offer a more diverse range of options to our community. However, we are currently a long way from having the money to make this dream become a reality. Therefore, we are running this Art Auction to help fundraise. By purchasing artworks from this auction people can help our cause while acquiring quality Art works by prominent and local artists such as; James F Ormsby, Gavin Chai, Amber Emm (Artwork seen below), Trevor Parker, and Judy Stokes. Many of the artists who have generously donated works to this auction have been involved with Kumeu Arts Centre in some way, some for a long time, either through teaching, exhibiting or volunteering here. You can come to Kumeu Arts Centre to view the works in our gallery during the Art Auction Exhibition. April 9th - 21st 2018 during which time visitors will also be able to place bids on the works displayed. Alternatively, you will be able to view and bid on a selection of the artworks available at: https://www.32auctions.com/KACIexpansion Image below -Amber Emm. "I have a friend who I anticipate conversing with. From an early age, I was mesmerised by this friends stories and fictitious elaborations. His ability to seduce one into believing his tales to be reality is remarkable.
When I look at the work of Peter Purcell I feel lured into the same illusion. I’m joining in a good old yarn with the artist and being taken for a ride around his excitable imagination.
These animated representations are a combination of memorabilia, and the colourful qualities that is Peters fictional (or non) interior narratives.
The pleasure of looking at Purcell’s paintings is that the narrative keeps on playing. Like a good Shakespeare sonnet, it needs iterating to really come to grips with what is actually being said."
