Brent Wong - Giclee Prints - Read More Exhibition Dates: 19th March - 20th April. Opening Night: Friday March the 22nd 5-8pm
Brent Wong’s paintings have affected many people in New Zealand. They recognize the iconic blue tones, the floating structures and cloud formations. Paintings which seem both nostalgic and timeless. Brent’s name and face isn’t so known, such is his quiet humility.
For some people the impact of Brent’s pictures has been profound. Since advertising this exhibition I have had much interest. I had a call from one person who, upon seeing an advert, simply had to ring. He told me a story that highlights the impact of the work. When he was a boy at school he had a text book and on the cover, was one of Brent’s paintings. It moved him to such a degree that he made a promise to himself – to one day acquire a Brent Wong and meet the man himself. He called to see if this would be possible.
I believe that Brent’s work taps in to something deep in our subconscious. Perhaps the reason they ‘stay’ with us is because he captures something within all of us? Hearing Brent talk about his process and his intention in a recent interview with Kumeu Arts Centre has helped clarify just why they resonate so much. Seeing this collection together in our gallery furthers this understanding. I encourage you to do the same. JN
